Bitcoin traded within a narrow range amid modest declines across the broader cryptocurrency market, as investors remained cautious and avoided taking significant positions ahead of the highly anticipated US inflation report. Market participants are closely monitoring the upcoming figures for further indications of the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy outlook and its potential impact on digital assets.
The world’s largest cryptocurrency declined by 0.26% to $83,453.4, while other major digital assets recorded relatively steeper losses. The weakness extended the cryptocurrency market’s subdued start to October, as profit taking and persistent investor caution continued to weigh on sentiment. Concerns over rising oil prices and ongoing military tensions in the Middle East added further pressure to risk appetite, limiting demand for speculative assets.
Despite the prevailing weakness, signs of renewed institutional demand provided some support for Bitcoin. A recovery in capital inflows into spot Bitcoin exchange traded funds (ETFs) helped limit the cryptocurrency’s losses. According to data from SoSoValue, net inflows reached $175.6 million, marking their highest level in nearly two weeks and indicating a partial recovery following substantial withdrawals totaling $681 million during the previous week. Nevertheless, the sustainability of these inflows remains closely linked to upcoming US economic data and expectations surrounding further interest rate increases.
Elsewhere in the cryptocurrency market, Ethereum, the world’s second largest digital asset, fell 1.1% to $2,506.09, while XRP declined by 0.7%. Solana lost 1.3%, Cardano dropped 2.1%, and BNB slipped approximately 0.4%. Meme coins also remained under pressure, with Dogecoin and the TRUMP token each recording losses of 0.5%, reflecting broader selling activity across the digital asset market.
Investor attention is now focused on the upcoming US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, which is expected to indicate that inflation remained persistent in September, alongside a potential acceleration in core consumer prices. Sustained inflationary pressures could strengthen expectations of additional interest rate increases by the Federal Reserve, creating further challenges for the cryptocurrency market. Digital assets have already faced pressure from elevated US Treasury yields, as investors increasingly price in the possibility of at least one additional interest rate hike before the end of the year. Higher borrowing costs and tighter financial conditions could continue to limit demand for risk sensitive assets, leaving Bitcoin and the broader cryptocurrency market vulnerable to further volatility as investors reassess the outlook for US monetary policy.
