Gold rebounds as dollar dips, keeping inflation worries alive

0 3

Gold prices rose as a weaker U.S. dollar provided support for the precious metal, despite persistent concerns about energy supply disruptions, inflationary pressures, and the possibility of further interest rate hikes amid escalating geopolitical tensions and strategic developments in the Middle East.

Spot gold gained 0.5% to reach $4,191.76 per ounce, while gold futures climbed 0.6% to $4,215.87. Other precious metals also advanced, with silver rising 0.3% to $60.50 per ounce, platinum gaining 0.3% to $1,697.26, and palladium increasing 0.4% to $1,147.50. Meanwhile, the U.S. Dollar Index declined 0.2% to 102.43 points.

In energy markets, Brent crude approached $106 per barrel as concerns grew over the potential expansion of the conflict and its direct impact on energy supply routes. These developments renewed fears that rising oil prices could prolong global inflationary pressures. Gold’s appeal is typically affected by higher borrowing costs and rising bond yields, as the precious metal does not generate income compared with other investment assets that benefit from higher interest rates.

Financial markets are currently awaiting U.S. inflation data for clearer indications of the Federal Reserve’s upcoming monetary policy decisions. Market expectations suggest the possibility of another interest rate increase before the end of the year, while the upcoming Consumer Price Index report remains a key factor likely to influence precious metal prices and broader financial market movements in the coming period.
