Bitcoin steadied near $81,000, losing some of the momentum it gained over the weekend, as markets watched upcoming regulatory developments in the United States, along with continued caution linked to US economic data and expected meetings between Washington and Beijing.
The world’s largest cryptocurrency rose slightly to trade around $80,833, after touching $82,000 over the weekend before giving up a large part of its gains at the start of the week.
Attention this week is turning to the release of the US Consumer Price Index data, which could provide fresh signals on the path of inflation and monetary policy. At the same time, markets are awaiting a high level summit between the United States and China, which limited risk appetite across markets.
Meanwhile, investors are watching moves in the US Senate regarding the Clarity Act, which aims to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for the cryptocurrency market in the United States. The Senate Banking Committee is scheduled to hold a key session to discuss the bill, amid signs of a compromise related to stablecoin yields. This would allow some rewards linked to active transactions and digital staking, while banning yields similar to traditional bank deposits.
Observers believe that passing the law could give the digital asset market more legitimacy and regulatory clarity within US markets, especially if it later moves to a full vote in the Senate.
Across other cryptocurrencies, Ethereum posted a slight rise to around $2,337, while XRP climbed about 2.8%. Binance Coin, Solana, and Cardano also recorded mixed gains, while Dogecoin rose modestly, compared with a slight decline in the TRUMP digital coin.
